During the 1920s, America experienced an explosion in the creation of modern technology. Throughout the 1920s, American inventors created numerous products that forever changed everyday life. One example would be Henry Ford’s Model T. With production and assembly becoming increasingly faster and cheaper, Henry Ford sold nearly 15 million Model T’s by 1927. (1) This was the first time in American history where an average person could own their own automobile. As a result, the first highways and expressways were built in the 1920s, to accommodate the large amount of travel Americans were doing. The 1920s also brought new technology into America’s kitchens. With inventions like the toaster, dishwasher, frozen foods and other major appliances, it allowed meals to be made much faster than ever before. (2) The most notable technology to come out of the 1920s was probably the mass production and use of the radio and broadcasting systems. The first radio broadcasting system was KDKA Pittsburg, which was created in 1920. “By the end of 1922, 563 other stations would obtain licensed AM radio stations to join KDKA of Pittsburgh.” (3) Never before had Americans been able to receive news and daily information right as it was happening. As a result of the radio, advertisement increased substantially during the 1920s. The radio allowed companies to promote new products much faster and easier. The 1920s was a time of great advancements in technology. With assembly lines and production becoming increasingly faster, 1920s introduced many products which we still use today.
